I have been talking about a relationship between three major or minor chords whose roots form an augmented chord. As far as I know, no one has named this relationship, so I came up with the word “Trinity”. I needed something that is related to three, and that word seemed as good as any other that I could think of.
I wanted to write a piece of music illustrating this relationship that a student could easily learn.
I started out with a simple theme in C major, and if I had carried through with this idea, I would have gone to E major then Ab major and finally back to C major. But that seemed a bit too repetitive to me and could have perhaps been a bit monotonous, so I decided to keep the themes to the key of C major, E major, and Ab major.
The problem with this idea was that I would not have ended in the same key in which I started.
I think there is something rather elegant about starting and ending in the same key. So I decided to complete the whole cycle by starting with an introduction in Ab major. Then when I got to the theme in Ab major the last time, it would end in the beginning key. Then all I had to do was write a short ending.
I actually thought of several other possible titles. One was “Delicate Waltz”. Another was “The Ballerina”. There are more possibilities. But in the end I decided to go with a title that would reflect the fact that this was written with a purpose. The purpose was to illustrate the “Trinity” idea, and that is how I finally decided on the title.
