Malagueña

“Malagueña” is not the name of a piece. It is a kind of dance, like a waltz, cha-cha, rumba or foxtrot. So there are hundreds of “aalagueñas”. They all have a particular chord structure, like this: Am, G, F, E. You just get that progression and transpose it to any key. That’s where the distinctive sound comes from. It’s not quite a mode or an altered mode because one of the notes keeps changing. The scale would be: A B C D E F# then G or G#.

  1. I love the sound of this piece. It’s sounds very simple yet so elegant and it’s probably very hard to play. This would probably be an interesting next piece for me.
