Short and the nicest improv I’ve found…
I ran into this more than a year ago. I wish I could track down the kid who did this and thank him. I found his theme so interesting that I wrote a piece of music using it, Lydian Soliloquy.
But somehow I lost the post and the link. Special thanks to Nahyan, who suggested using history in YouTube to find the video.
Lydian is just like major with #4. One note is different. It creates and exotic, fantasy sound. This improv is just sweet.
What I like about this, besides that it’s cool music, is that when learning modes and just playing them, it’s easy to hear them as “from degree 4” and suddenly you’re hearing C major when play F Lydian. You want to hear the character or personality of that mode, just like major and minor sound different. This music gives me that.
Parts of this sound familiar. I’ve played it somewhere along the way. I like the sound.
