This is a miniature, a lovely little waltz by Granados, and there is really nothing else much to say about it. It’s just beautiful. I first heard it between six and nine months ago, and I immediately loved it. There are few notes, so a good student should be able to play it. But as always it demands great sensitivity.
I stuck to the notes, making no changes.
But as I listened to a recording I made months ago two thing bothered me. First, in two places little notes came in before the beat, and I felt very strongly that those two places should be on the beat. The second thing was that it was over too fast. So repeated the whole thing, but omitted the first part of the theme, and to my ear this seems just right.
Some compositions immediately make me think: “Wow, I wish I had written that.”
This is one of those amazing miniatures that fill me with awe at the simplicity and elegance of the writing.
Bring the sheets for this next time, I wouldn’t mind giving this a crack. I really like it. This recording is more piano-like than the other one (I hear this as a guitar piece, really, I do)
