Beethoven: Sonatina in F

The Sonatina in F major was published during Beethoven’s lifetime around 1807. However, it is very unlikely that it was actually written by Beethoven, and for this reason it does not have an opus number. Instead it is listed in his catalogue of works as “Anhang/Appendix, No. 2”.

The rest of the story:

The first movement is marked to be played quite fast, but by doing so it completely ruins the contrast between the 1st and 2nd movements, so I have chosen to play the first movement much more slowly. If the piece was not written by Beethoven, we can approach the whole thing with more freedom. This makes the second movement much more effective when played quickly.

  1. I remember this one! When young I had a piano, no lessons, and exactly two weathered old books. One had sonatinas. This was one of them. Cool to hear with it’s *really* supposed to sound like. 😉
I agree with BertArt about the sunshine.
