Here the year is the important thing, so you see when composers were listening to other music, and what it was. In this list everything is alphabetized by the year of composition. So, for instance, you will not get to later composers until the year they wrote things. In the first column it simply shows in what year each composer was born in. To find Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, you would have to know that he wrote it in 1822 . When I give the age of the composer it is an approximation based only on the year , so the figure is merely close. When you go to 1822 you will see what other composers were writing in that same time period. In the first column you will see that Beethoven was born in 1770.
