1757: Haydn: Symphony No. 18 in G major, age 25

Mr. Peabody Says:

This is yet again another very early symphony totally at odds with the number. Once again Hogwood is faster and cleaner, so for these early symphonies he is just better. The long time in his recording is due to repeats. Try starting here: Allegro molto 4:37

Christopher Hogwood/The Academy of Ancient Music

Total time: 14:45

Adam Fischer:

  1. Andante moderato 4:21
  2. Allegro molto 5:03
  3. Tempo di Minuetto, G major – G minor – G major 4:28

Total time: 13:54

Instruments:

  • 2 oboes
  • bassoon
  • 2 horns
  • strings
  • continuo

One of the weakest:

It’s all in the same key, and there is really nothing at all special in this one.
