In the Bleak Midwinter
This is actually a poem, not a musical composition, but over the years many composers and arrangers have set the poem to music.
In the Bleak Midwinter, Jacob Collier
This has been around for around four years now, but I only heard it for the first time around a year ago. I was impressed and remain impressed.
In the Bleak Midwinter, by Gustav Holst
I had no idea the man who wrote “The Planets” also wrote music to this poem, so it was a bit of a surprise to discover this link between Holst and Jacob Collier just two days before Christmas.
I can’t imagine how much time went into making this recording. The end result is unbelievably awesome. Jacob is in a class of his own.
Of course as soon as I saw “Jacob Collier” I had to rush and listen – not disappointed. He adds so much to anything he interprets. The harmonies are literally “out of this world”.
The Holst link did not work here where I am in Canada. I found an alternative in case anyone else runs into this.
