Mendelssohn: String Symphony No. 10, age 14
Klaus Mäkelä
There is a bit of info about this composition HERE
The important thing is that It was completed in May of 1823 when he was barely 14, and the maturity of the music is frightening. He was in every way the ultimate prodigy. While we are stuck in Covid hell this is a reminder of what we thought was starting to happen last summer, before the second wave of Covid hit. Even here you see everyone distanced, but at least they were playing.
I found it enjoyable music, and especially liked how it opened.
Very enjoyable. I liked the contrasts in moods and tempos. It is hard to believe that Mendelssohn wrote this at the age of 14.
