Teaching with Covid-19

SATURDAY, August 29, 2020 – 10:54 PM

I’ve become an online teacher. I had no desire to do this months ago, but my only other choice was to quit teaching. I have slowly adjusted to the challenge. Each day I am adding more resources, so please keep checking back here to see what is new. My goal is now to reach out, and I hope people will finally remember that online teaching is international. If you have a computer and what my help, we can do this from anywhere in the world. My teaching is no longer local, and that’s a very good thing.

(Five months ago I never saw this coming. I don’t think the world saw it coming. The first person reported to die from Covid-19 in our country, Broward county, died March 10, 2020. By March 24, when I wrote the first blurb here, 18 people died in a week, and that’s when we started to lock down. By only Apr. 7,  63 people died in a week, and we thought we had hit the worst. But by Aug. 17 that number wen up to 192, the worst week we’ve had, and it’s only back to 95 now. I started keeping records. I never expected this.)

Well, like the rest of you I’m about to go nuts with this enforced isolation. I see that one student, Michael, told me that he has been playing, and what. That was nice. Maybe that might help me get out of my own funk.

I’m going to post here, in this new topic, for as long as we are shut down. I hope it is not for long, but of course right now no one knows what comes next.

  1. I never had so much time spent with my family in so short period of time. I have to lock down my room to be able to play piano. Challenging times; I hope we get back to the old rutine soon!

  2. Even though we’re going through these rough times, we can still musically express ourselves. In fact, it probably helps us keep some of our sentimental values.

  3. This new section of Spotlight is exactly the right thing for these times. If we are all isolated, we’re just a little bit less so now. Thank you.
