Carl Maria von Weber – (18 or 19 November 1786 – 5 June 1826)…

Weber is a man I know almost nothing about, and I’m only familiar with his music because of compositions he wrote for other instruments. I can hear in his music something of what Chopin wrote, but with much simpler harmonies, almost a meld of Beethoven and Chopin. He would be classed as an early Romantic style composer.

Yet another famous composer died before age 40…

Weber joins Gershwin and Chopin in dying at 39. His mother died of tuberculosis in 1798 at age 34, when Carl Maria was only 12, and the same illness killed her son. So many people died young of illnesses that would easily be cured today, and it remains a mystery to me how his mother, who died so young from a lung disease was a successful opera singer.

The first concerto…

And the 2nd Concerto…
