The most amazing youth program in the world

These kids blow my mind…

How men and women this young play so well is beyond my understanding. The irony is that this all happened in one of the most politically corrupt counties in the world, now split in two between two political factions. Venezuela used to be one of the richest countries in the world, but with a catch. The wealth was in oil, and potentially this could still be true. And yet most of the people were poor, even when times were better.

This is from around 10 years ago. The conductor, Gustavo Dudamel, is now the musical director of the LA Symphony Orchestra. He continues to do amazing work with young people in this country, but now in one of the richest parts of the world.

  1. Sometimes it takes one or a few very dedicated and stubborn people who believe in something and do their utmost to push it forward. Sometimes despair is a powerful motivator for trying to change things. When I see this I can’t help thinking of El Sistema which amazed me when I first heard of it. Bravo for Dudamel and these young musicians. A pleasure to listen to.
