1884: Tchaikovsky: Elegy in G, age 44
This is a short movement for strings written in 1884 and is one of many compositions by Tchaikovsky that is almost unknown. I find it quite haunting, and not for the first time I’ve thought that Tchaikovsky’s genius for writing beautiful melodies remains and unexplained mystery.
I know nothing about this conductor or the orchestra.
This is unspeakably beautiful. It works so well that one goes “but of course” when there is nothing of course about it.
